People and the media flock to some of best to see what styles they are creating and look to them for future trends. People can't wait to get under their hands. That is why top stylists are able to charge top dollar for their creations. Typically a great stylist starts at the bottom building a clientele. When others notice their beautiful work their clients refer people to them. Once word gets out most successful stylists will tell you a movie star, rock star or anyone in the spot light that heard about them and started wearing their creation boosted their fame instantly.

Palm Beach Academy knows a solid core of education is the foundation for our graduates to achieve all of their professional goals.

Palm Beach Academy uses the comprehensive Swavely™ method to complement the basic texts available to cosmetology schools today. The Swavely™ method gives our students the ability to analyze their clients hair from a detailed and microscopic level. Students are then able to discuss hair styling, cutting, retexturizing and coloring options in depth with their teachers.

We know well educated students who are practicing their hair styling skills on the clients who visit Palm Beach Academy are better able to achieve the desired result. Experienced students find it much easier to transition into professional hairstylists. The only measure of success a Cosmetologist has is a large happy clientele.

Cosmetology more than hair

A Cosmetologist is not only a hairstylist. Although Palm Beach Academy as well as the laws in the state of Florida require most of the required 1200 hours of education be spent on hair they also include the study of skin care and nail care. We take these additional studies seriously as it is our desire to graduate students who can earn income after graduation competently and confidently in all three areas. Ultimately it is our graduate's choice as to what services they choose to offer their clients as professionals.

The tools

Palm Beach Academy students are trained with a variety of products and tools that are used in Fine salons and spas. Your education would be limited if the hair color, perming, cutting and styling tools were not of a professional caliber. Good tools and products enable stylists to achieve the results clients expect at the hands of a professional. We all know cheap junk so readily available in the beauty business does not work.

As a student you trust your school to provide the professional level of products and tools you need to succeed. That is why the Palm Beach Academy includes everything. You trust our judgment to pick what is in your best interest. Any student regardless of trade school or college is vulnerable to being taken advantage of simply because they haven't learned yet what information and tools they need to succeed. It is up to us as schools to provide the right tools and earn your trust while you achieve success each step of the way through the learning process.

Course outline

Most of our students have some fear and a little brain freeze when the words science and chemistry come into their studies. We use the Swavely™ method to bring to life the science and chemistry aspects of cosmetology in a fun yet serious way. Once our students understand how valuable this knowledge is to all the hairstyling decisions they make they are quite proud of themselves. They have a level of understanding of the sciences that allows them to control the decisions they make rather than fearing they made the wrong choice for their clients. It is our goal that our students possess the knowledge to set trends and create designs while working freely in the sciences. The Swavely™ method of teaching helps to give them that knowledge and power.

Our Cosmetology students learn

• Hair cutting with shears, clippers, trimmers and the straight edge razor
• Hair styling with dryers, irons, rollers, wet sculpting and pinning
• Hair coloring using permanent, demi permanent, semi permanent and temporary color
• Hair perming using relaxers, straighteners, curl reformers, curling perms, keratin
• Scalp treatments using electrical current, massage, shampoos, conditioners, treatments
• Nail care using polishes, acrylics, nail tools for the hand and foot and massage
• Skin care using cleansers, toners, masks, peels, moisturizers, massage, makeup etc.
• Hair removal using wax and tweezers

All of the above skills are taught for application on men and women

Students also learn

• Salon business using texts, lectures and individual salon development projects
• Sanitation using texts, wet immersion, spray and laundering techniques
• Florida law using text and lecture
